Our Week

I actually already wrote this once.... and posted it once, and somehow the site deleted it... it's all very confusing. So this one will be a little more condensed.

We've had a fun week, and leave this evening to go to Minnesota to visit the wonderful Formo family until Tuesday. 

We all played outside in the "pool"... an old sandbox that we refuse to fill with sand...again


K chose her own dress for the All Abilities Fashion Show coming up in a couple of weeks.  Such a girly girl some times :)

We took a cardboard box (thanks to diapers.com)  and I let each kid choose a project. D chose sword/shields.  As we played "protecting our castle" I shouted, on guard!  Later, I heard D playing by himself, and he said "Watch Out, I'm on Guard!"  So funny my middle one can be.

K chose a bus project.  She actually chose two pictures other than the one shown here to use in the windows.... but I seem to have misplaced them, so the project is still only semi complete. 


Each week my kids grow up a little more, and we're able to do more fun things, try new places, meet new people.  I'm continually working on more patience, less frustration, less irritation with them.  We all still experience some growing pains, but I'm not quite 30 yet, so I figure I still have some time :-)

365 days ago, Caleb walked out of Louisville with a 1st place Showmanship ribbon in his hands and a smile the size of Texas. Since that day, he has had his heart set on winning showmanship at NAILE again. Before show season even started, he hand picked the most docile lamb in our pens and named her. He worked all summer with Sophia. With the thousands of inches of rain this summer, when most eight year old kids were in front of a screen, he was in the barn in front of a mirror with Sophia. When it was 98 degrees, and other kids were at the pool, he was outside with Sophia. Mid October, when it was freezing, he was bundled up with Sophia, practicing getting her legs set just right. If there is a kid that worked for that win this year, it's him. After all of those months of dedication, he was so excited when it was finally show time last weekend, no one more confident than him. Friendship

As a "grown up" I'm never quite sure how to make real, grown up friends. We have made good relationships at church, some through Gibbs' workplace, but other than that, it's a pretty tough thing to do! We are married, with three kids, so our schedule isn't built for the type of friendships I have grown accustomed to. In high school, my group of girl friends were... well, we were almost cult-ish. We went to an all girls high school, and my girl friends were REAL friends. We spent a lot of time talking, regularly got mad at each other, expected a LOT from each other, forgave each other, and gave a lot to each other. It was just so nice and genuine, and there was rarely any pressure on us to be something we weren't. In the real "adult" world, I just think we are all trying so hard to be perfect. I see this so much in the Christian circles (more so than I did in college) and it seems that the right things are always being said, the right attitude

Judgement and Parenting

I've been writing this blog over and over in my head since Monday (the day of K's psychiatric appointment) but it's so... emotional, touchy, embarassing.... that I struggle with how to put it into words....especially without offending anyone. But, I think it's important enough to write about regardless of all of that. I've made a lot of judgements about people in the course of my christian life (a relatively short period of time, but still, somehow the judgements have really piled up!)  Especially in regards to parenting. What other moms are doing right, what other moms are doing wrong. Big decisions, small decisions, for whatever reason, I would like to think that I know best. And when people do it differently....well, usually that means that their way is wrong. I hate to admit this, it makes me sound terrible... but I hope that most of us can admit that we've all done it.
